Fix problems
PedForge checks the ped while you work. When it finds something, the validation button appears in the top bar: a warning sign with a count, red when any of the problems is an error.
The validation list
Press the validation button to open the list. Problems with the ped as a whole come first, then the rest, grouped by garment or category.
Press Show beside a group to select that garment or category. The inspector lists the same problems under Issues or About Tops and jackets.
Error means the game shows the garment wrongly or not at all, so fix it before you use the ped. Warning means it works but deserves a look. Note is for your information. Errors and warnings also put a dot on the category’s icon and the garment’s card.
The empty option
Every category in GTA starts with an option that is not a garment: it has neither a model nor textures, and it is how the game lets the ped go without a hat, without a bag or bare-headed. PedForge recognises it by the model being empty — a handful of points and no size at all — and does not count it as an error.
Such an option reads Empty option on the card and in the inspector, and gets no dot. Under Issues it stands as Note, so you can see that PedForge has looked at it. A garment that has a model but no textures is still an error, because it turns black or invisible in the game.
What you can fix
Close numbering gaps closes every numbering gap in the ped, both in each category and in each garment’s texture letters, and it can be undone like any edit. The button sits beside the error in the problem list and on the garment’s card, and under Garment in the inspector.
When you open a ped, PedForge re-rigs any of its own garments that do not fit its skeleton, as long as it knows the skeleton they were made for. This shows up as one edit, which you can undo. A garment whose skeleton PedForge does not know is left as it is and keeps its warning. Everything else you fix yourself, with the edits above or in the tool that made the files.
What PedForge checks
- A category that skips a number. The game reads the garments in order and stops at the gap, so everything after it is missing from the game’s clothing menu. The button that closes the gap sits beside the error.
- Texture letters that skip one, such as a, b, d.
- A garment with no main model, or with no textures.
- Skin-tone marks that do not match the textures.
- Textures and models so large that the resource streams slowly, and texture sizes that are not powers of two.
- Garments rigged to bones that do not fit this ped.
- A missing texture file, a skeleton file that is missing or cannot be read, textures that belong to no garment, and models with no clothing name.
- A .ymt file that no longer describes the garments.
