Skin, eyes and face pictures
Skin and face paints on the head’s textures: skin tone, beard and hair, eyes, pictures and photos. Everything in the panel is free.
Open the panel
Open Head in the category rail and choose the head.
Press Skin and face in the inspector, below Face. The panel says which garment it is painting on, and Esc closes it.
Every change is a step in the history, and a slider becomes a step when you let go of it. A head holds up to 16 layers in all: skin tone, beard and hair, eyes and pictures.
Skin tone
Under Skin tone, Lightness makes the skin lighter or darker and Warmth warmer or cooler. Only the skin changes; beard, brows, lips and eyes are left as they are.
Match the body measures the skin on the cheeks and on the forearms and sets both sliders so the face gets the same tone as the body. Under the sliders it says what the measurement found, for example that the face was lighter than the arms.
On a garment that bares skin — the torso, the legs, the hands or the feet — the button reads Match to the face instead, and it goes the other way: it measures the face and gives the garment’s bare skin that tone. If the skin is covered, by long sleeves or by trousers, the panel says so and paints nothing.
Good to know
To measure the body, the ped has to wear a garment in Arms and torso with textures. If that garment has long sleeves there is no skin to measure, and the panel says so under the sliders.
Beard and hair
Press Add beard or hair and choose a file: a .ytd, .dds, .png or .jpg. From a .ytd, the first texture that is not a normal map is used.
Each beard or hair gets a row of its own with a colour and a strength slider from 0 to 100 %. The colour is kept when you leave the colour field.
Tip
Set the skin tone first and add the beard after. The tone leaves the beard alone either way, but it is easier to pick a beard colour that suits the skin.
Eyes
Under Eyes there are three ready-made sets: Realistic, Special and PedForge. Click an eye and it replaces the eye in the head’s own texture.
Add your own eye file takes an eye file of your own: GTA’s mp_eye_colour.ytd, or a PNG laid out the same way, with four rows of eyes. The file is kept on this computer and is offered in all your projects from then on.
The Put the head’s own eyes back button, the bin by the eyes, puts the head’s own eyes back.
Pictures and a photo
Under Pictures and photo, choose where the picture goes in Place at and press Add picture. The picture, a PNG or JPEG, is laid in the middle of that part at its size. On a part that sits on both sides it lands on one side; add another picture for the other.
Add photo lays a photo of a face over the whole face, with its edges faded into the skin. A photo taken straight on works best.
With the photo selected, two lines show over it, Eye line and Mouth line. Drag them to the eyes and the mouth in the photo and press Line it up, and the photo is scaled and moved until its eyes and mouth land in the right place on the ped.
The selected picture has Size, Angle, Opacity and Feather, which fades its edges.
Under Layers the pictures are listed. Click one to select it, move it up or down the list, or remove it.
What it costs
Everything in this panel is free: skin tone, beard and hair, eyes, pictures and photos. The changes are painted into every texture variant of the head, while the model and the number of variants stay the same.
